Will The Texas Power Grid Kill More People?

0

Five short years ago a series of winter storms claimed the lives of 246 people. It is unknown how many of these people were illegal or criminal immigrants. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) was reportedly only four minutes and thirty-seven seconds away from total collapse. Thankfully, during the energy crisis many firms raked in billions of dollars due to their ability to pass on extraordinarily high energy prices to consumers.

This time around, ERCOT has issued a statement and said that the power grid will be completely normal. A bold claim for a region that has seen even more wind and solar connected to the system. How many lives will green energy claim this time? Sadly, wind is the second most prominent resource in Texas. Wind turbine across the state sat idle and inoperable in 2021, directly causing the death of dozens.

The G&G Podcast recently hosted Hypertroller on the show and he assured us that the Texas grid would be totally fine. Hyper, a Texas native who works at an Amazon warehouse, has special knowledge in power systems given his diverse media diet that ranges from Der Spiegel to Lord Bebo. Bastiat was also talking up the Texas power grid right before the 2021 outage so let us hope that Hyper’s prediction is true and doesn’t make a fool out of him.
